digestion and circulatroy

Digestive problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, nausea, constipation, and diarrhea bring intense pain to the one who suffer. Treatments for digestive disorders can be made into liquids, creams, or capsules through a mixtures of oils, herbs, and herbal water. Remember that although herbal mixtures may not treat symptom right away, through daily intake the illness can cured.

Herbs and oils best used for your digestion.

  • Fennel Seeds- heartburn, intestinal gas, loss of appetite, and bloating
  • Chamomile- irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, and colic
  • Ginger Root- nausea and vomiting
  • Lemon- upset stomach, helps keep food flowing through your body, and relieves indigestion
  • Orange Peel– this is not an oil or a herb, but orange peels have very many benefits.
  • Peppermint- abdominal pain, bloating, and gas.

Our circulatory system controls the flow of blood from our heart into our veins and vis versa. Diseases such as heart disease and high blood pressure are associated with poor circulation. Circulatory disorders are precisely all made as teas using primarily dried herbs such as cinnamon, ginger, and anything hot and spicy. Herbs such as these are not common use for many illnesses but work well to treat poor circulation. To add to that, exercise and diet contribute tremendously to health. Using herbal treatments for physical health can help promote living healthy in exercise and diet.

headaches

Headaches can consist of tension, sinus, or migraines. Many people suffer under headaches no matter the amount of medicine or water intake. Through the use of making either a tea, tincture, or inhalation, remedies such as dried herbs and oils help reduce head pain. Unlike medicine, herbal treatment can create longer lasting effects with the least possible side effects. Today, many medicine for various illnesses create headaches as a side effect. The issue of extreme side effects is non-existent with herbal medicine when using properly.

There are different typed of headaches such as migraines, tension, sinus, stress, etc. Here is a small list of oils to used for these kind of headaches:

  1. Peppermint oil–  Peppermint is the most common oil used to relieve tension headaches and migraines. This oil relaxes the muscles by allowing blood flow to head and eases pain. To apply mix with a natural oil and rub across your forehead.
  2. Eucalyptus oil- When suffering from a sinus, eucalyptus is your best friend. This oil opens up nasal airways and eliminates pressure to the head. Apply either by breathing or rubbing a few drops behind your neck.
  3. Rosemary and Chamomile- Under a lot of stress? If so, cure your headaches with one of these oils. They reduce emotional triggers and feelings of anxiety. To apply, mix with a natural oil and rub on the back of your neck or drink in a tea.
Mental Health

stress stress stress

If you already have beautiful skin and do not suffer from depression, don’t worry, there are many more uses for essential oils. Being as college studied I may be biased when saying “everyone stresses.” However, I do believe not only stress but anxiety easily take over our lives. As said in my previous blog, essential oils are perfect for upliftings. In addition, nothing eases my stress better than a bath with calming oils.

Anxiety: Depending on the cause of tension or anxiety a person might have is vital to the process of making home herbal treatment. Here are some oils that work best in healing anxiety.

  • Chamomile & Passionflower– Tea/supplement; Ease mind, calm nerves; sedating quality; sleeping
  • Kava– Tea for those with worried mind; sedative; treat social anxiety
  • Skullcap– Tea or tincture; Calm those with muscle tension; helps unwind
tea-vs-coffee
Coffee vs. Tea? Coffee has caffeine which helps someone wake up in the morning. Tea also has caffeine but also has healthy supplements to heal the body and mind.

Stress: Herbal teas for stress related problems should contain restorative herbs and herbs that work well with heart-related disorders and stress-related problems. For example, here are some

  • Rose and Rosewood– Work best to relieve stress; allows flow to heart nerves
  • Frankincense– Relaxing oil for stress related problems
  • Lemon Lavender– A mix of both will help refresh and build strength

* Use oils anyway that helps you best relieve stress. For example, using a diffuser, taking a bath, or drinking a tea.

Mental Health

don’t be depressed, get lemon zest

Okay, maybe not lemon zest, but get some lemons! Depression is one of the most common mental disorders and is not easy treat. The typical treatment is by pill, however those with depression either refuse to take the medicine or they overdose. I have also heard the opinion, “I do not want my happiness to come from a bottle.” The good news is there are other ways to treat depression without taking a high dollar pill every morning. Essential oils work great to uplift moods because they are relaxing and compliment the body. I am no expert at using essential oils for depression, but am aware of what oils are best to use and how to use the oils.

There are many different ways to intake oils for depression. The most common is in the bath. Baths are great for any mental illness because they give the brain a chance to relax. It does not take very many drops, only 5-6, of chosen oil. In addition, you can always add in a bubble bath, bath bomb, or bath salts (recommend using same scents or scents that compliment each other). Another way is through an aromatherapy massage. This one will obviously require a professional masseuse. Lastly you can use oils in a diffuser or 1-2 drops next to your pillow when you sleep at night.

Which oils to use? Depending on the level of depression suggest which oil to use. Lemongrass and bergamot work best to uplift moods, while Lavender and Ylang Ylang work as soothing oils. Trial and error is best suggested when choosing an essential oil because everyone reacts differently. Also, before using always research the oil (because they are not cheap).

Don’t be depressed, get lemon zest (or grass but it’s whatever).

Beauty Care

washes

With over 100 body wash products, every person has their favorite brand. However, many are chemically based and are destroying your skin. Creating your own body wash will allow creativity,  naturally made ingredients, and fragrance of personal choice. In order to create a body wash, you will only need four simple ingredients.

  1. Pure Castille Soap (or any liquid soap base)
  2. Raw Honey
  3. Coconut Oil (or any natural oil)
  4. Essential Oils

Pure Castille Soap is a non fragrant organic soap base. It’s slightly expensive, $10-$20, but  it complements your skin and blend well with oils. Raw honey is used as a moisturizer, keeping skin from becoming too dry. After taking aa shower, the skin becomes dry. However, honey helps prevent itchy skin. Likewise, coconut oil helps moisturize skin. Essential oils are the smallest yet most important ingredient. Depending on ones personal choice, essential oils can be chosen for fragrance, healing, moisturizer, etc.

If preferred, homemade soap bars have similar results. From personal use I have found soap bars to dry out skin, so it is suggested to apply a moisturizer after taking a shower. Ingredients for soap bars include many natural oils, essential oils, lye, distilled water, and occasionally milk and honey.

As a result, homemade body wash compliments the skin because it’s ingredients are refreshing and natural.

Beauty Care

natural beauty

The optimistic world views each person as having natural beauty. However, many individuals disagree that they could ever be beautiful without make-up or skin products. Some days I feel the same way. In times of stress, anxiety, etc. my face and back break out and I feel forced to cover my acne up. After discovering essential oils and naturally made products, my face feels cleaner. In fact, since my use of these products, regular chemical based products damage my skin. When using essential oils for beauty care, many combine the oils with herbs, water, and/or lotion (ex. Shea Butter) to bring forth stronger results. Beauty shall be taken care of vigilantly because of the high number of toxins found in many products. In all respects, the outer body deserves to be treated with products that compliment it.

Essential oils do not always heal faster than other products, especially when first using them. Your skin has to adjust to them. For example, when giving up caffeine your body will feel different, if not worse, because it has relied on caffeine for a long time. Likewise, transitioning into naturally made products, your skin may take a while to heal. However, your skin will never damage from proper use of essential oils and herbs. There are very few, if not no side effects when dealing with natural skin products.

Tips for which oils to use:

  • For acne; inflamed skin: Eucalyptus, Lavender and Tea Tree
  • Dry skin: Rose, Olive, and Neem
  • Sebum Control: Peppermint, and Argon.

In addition, Aylin Erman wrote in Organic Authority of her suggested top three oils for skin use. She also adds how to apply and use regularly.

the intro

The world today is not considered to be “clean.” Diseases are spread and bad genetics are passed down. Personally, I suffer from face and back acne caused by stress and anxiety.  Luckily, the Earth naturally provides essentials to help cure irregular body functions and moods. Extracted from plants, essential oils can strengthen our beauty care, mental health, and physical health. Most of our regular beauty care products, medication, treatments, etc. are chemically based and contain toxins that damage the body. However, products containing essential oils kill off unwanted micro-organisms.  Therefore, naturally based products are more welcoming to our bodies.

In each of my blogs I will expand on how essential oils directly treat our beauty care, mental and physical health.
